Does your partner ignore what you say? Are they just not hearing your needs?
Do you suffer in your relationship, longing for a more loving connection?
I’m Don Wallach, LMFT, LPCC and for over 20 years I have been helping struggling couples who long for love, find each other again, in a happier and more connected relationship. I do this in a process that is sometimes called marriage counseling or couples counseling, or marriage therapy, or couples therapy.
Why couples seek help.
Most importantly, couples come in to therapy because they are in pain – emotional pain. It may be that the relationship that started out so well has turned sour. Or, at least it’s starting to head that way. And what most people want, is to get out of the pain and get back to love and connection.
Repairing the damage.
One of the approaches I use is to repair the damage to the marriage. And then, I help the couple to eventually learn how to repair things, on their own. Now, this does take some work. Because it takes work, it helps if both spouses are willing to make some changes. But many couples come in, not expecting to change, or blaming their partner for everything. And still, change happens and couples fall back in love, and feel close to their partner, again.
What I’ve discovered about couples.
What I’ve discovered is that couples can be too attached to their idea of what’s going on; rather than listening carefully to what their partner is saying. When a partner is not listening, even the deepest of connections with your spouse, can just fade away. And, if that connection fades, you may feel that you are more like roommates than lovers. And finally, you could even fall out of love.
Losing your connection with your partner.
If you have lost that most important connection with your partner, that loss could take away your happiness and break your heart. And if that happens you may be stuck in the painful feelings of loneliness, stress, hurt, sadness, and misery. Luckily, there is hope – help is available.
Are you worried about your marriage? Have you been curious about whether marriage counseling or couples therapy is the right next step for you?
Finding the right marriage counselor is important. It is crucial that both spouses feel good about the choice for a marriage counselor. I feel that it is a privilege to do the work with a couple, and honored that they chose me to help them do the work. I provide lots of articles about relationships on my blog, so that you can get a good idea of how I think about couples and relationships.
Are you wanting more success in your marriage?
If so, there is hope. So many couples are unhappy or even thinking of leaving their relationship, yet there is a solution.
There is a path that leads towards a happier relationship.
Are you tired of arguments, stand-offs, or the silent treatment in your marriage? If that is true, I invite you to consider doing the work of couples therapy, because it can help you to improve your quality of life, and repair the damage to your relationship.
